Second-generation 50-acre game meat farm at 283 County Route 6 in the southwestern corner of Columbia County, founded in 1984 by Mark MacNamara, a former Bronx Zoo Curator of Mammals with a PhD in deer behavior, on a former dairy property. Operates under NYS Agriculture & Markets cervid licensing and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Herd Certification Program standards to raise red deer, fallow deer, elk, and a proprietary red deer-elk hybrid ("super reds") for premium game meat. Product line includes venison, elk, bison, ostrich, and a wide selection of sausages and smoked meats, plus specialty ostrich and emu eggs in season. Pasture-raised, no hormones, no antibiotics, processed on-farm between 15 and 27 months of age. Available year-round through the website (eat-better-meat.com), at the Kingston, Hudson, Copake-Hillsdale, and Rhinebeck farmers markets, and wholesale to regional restaurants and grocers.
