The Almanac grew from about 1,400 listings to 1,882 in a single day, and every website link in the directory got checked.
Today was a big one. The Almanac started the morning with about 1,400 listings and ended the day with 1,882. That's nearly 480 new farms, farm stands, markets, makers, and maple producers, all added in one long push.
Most of the new listings came from three regional directories that do great work: Rensselaer County's Harvest Connection, Hudson Valley Bounty, and Pure Catskills. I went through all of them, skipped anything the Almanac already had, and wrote each new listing in the Almanac's own words. I also checked every website before adding it, and left it off when it didn't lead to the right place.
The rest came from my research for an upcoming guide to buying meat directly from Hudson Valley farms. That work turned up more than 80 meat farms that weren't in the Almanac yet, including a couple of dozen that sell quarter, half, or whole shares.
Delaware County got the biggest boost, with more than 90 new listings, thanks mostly to Pure Catskills. Ulster, Columbia, Rensselaer, Schoharie, Sullivan, Orange, Dutchess, and Saratoga counties all gained dozens each. You'll find new creameries, cideries, wineries, Christmas tree farms, nurseries, honey producers, and a lot of farms selling beef, pork, lamb, and chicken.
Directories get stale, so I also went through the whole Almanac. I tested every website link, more than a thousand of them. About 20 broken links were replaced with the right one, and about 70 that no longer worked were removed, so you won't land on a dead page. I added phone numbers to 76 listings that were missing them, corrected a few farms that were listed in the wrong town or county, and merged a couple of duplicates.
