Statewide producer-funded organization promoting beef in New York since 1986, headquartered at 6351 Route 26 South in Rome, Oneida County. Funded through the Beef Checkoff established by the 1985 Farm Bill and operating as a Qualified State Beef Council, NYBC supports New York beef and veal producers through marketing, education, Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) trainings, and consumer outreach including the annual Best New York Burger Competition. Of particular relevance to the hunger-relief community: NYBC runs the annual Farm to Food Bank initiative each May (Beef Month), in which beef and dairy farmers and beef consumers can pledge a calf or make monetary contributions; the funds purchase beef for the eight regional food banks serving all 62 counties in New York. A single $50 donation provides meals for approximately 150 people. NYBC also provides training for food bank staff on economically utilizing and preparing beef donations.
