Founded in 1985, the Dutchess Land Conservancy is one of the most prominent and active land conservation organizations in the country, having preserved more than 48,000 acres of habitat, open space, and farmland across Dutchess County and surrounding areas. Works primarily through conservation easements on privately held land, limiting future development in perpetuity. Provides professional assistance to landowners and municipalities on conservation planning and stewardship. Dutchess County has 170,000+ acres in agricultural use and is the #8 apple-producing county in New York State.
